What is website hosting?
We create special directories on our high-speed computers (web servers) where you put the files that make up your website. As soon as your domain name is properly pointing to us, anyone using the Internet will be able to view your website 24-hours a day. Our website hosting accounts also include email accounts so people can send email to you at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Do I need to set up my hosting account before or after I get my domain name?
No. You can sign up for both at the same time. Just start by selecting the domain name you want to use.
How do I order my website hosting account?
You can place your order for website hosting right now by selecting the Hosting Plan you want to use. If you have any questions or problems, please contact us.
How do I pay for my website hosting?
We accept Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and money orders. We also accept company or personal checks for annual plan payments.
How long does it take AbleHost.com to set up my hosting account?
We will have your website set up and ready within one business day of receipt of payment. We will notify you immediately via email as soon as your account is set up.
Can I transfer a website and/or an existing domain name to AbleHost.com from another hosting service or ISP?
Yes. We can assist you with this. When you place your order with AbleHost.com, you will specify whether it is a new domain name or a transfer of an existing domain name. You should keep your hosting account where it is while we are waiting for all of the transfer information to be completed. Sometimes it is necessary to get your existing hosting company to assist with this process (we will let you know). If everything goes the way it is supposed to, the entire process can be done in 3-4 days, but may be delayed if your old host does not process the transfer request in a timely fashion. Additionally, when the InterNIC process is complete, there is a period of time (usually around 72 hours) when a visitor could end up at either your new site or the old site. It us usually safe to assume you can complete the entire process in 7-10 days.
Can I do anything with my website hosting account?
No. All websites are subject to the terms and conditions of our Acceptable Use Policy (see Support Site). We do not host pornographic, gambling, or adult sites. Any mass emailing (spamming) activities are not tolerated. Spamming is defined as sending unsolicited (junk) email.
How much activity can my site have?
Even our smallest hosting packages allow generous allocations of data transfer per month. This is sufficient for most of the sites we host. If you have a really active website, you will be able to upgrade to a larger hosting account which provides for larger volumes of data transfer per month.
How do I get to my website?
You can use any standard Internet connection to view your website. You will be able to visit your site, check your email, and view your website statistics (SiteStats©) without any special requirements.
How do I transfer files to my website?
File Transfer Protocol (FTP) is used to move files from your hard disk to your website. Most website editing programs include a FTP utility to do this. If you plan to use Microsoft's FrontPage 2002 (or FrontPage 2000 or FrontPage 98) to publish your site, the FTP utility is already built into the 'Publish' procedure.
Will I have unlimited access to update my web pages?
Yes. You can update your website as often as you like, any time of the day or night.
Can I have two or more domain names for the same website?
Yes. We can help you register additional domain names (or transfer them). We can arrange it so your different domain names all point to your website. If you are interested in this, please contact us.
Will I be able to access my domain name with or without the www?
Yes. As part of our hosting service, we will configure our server so you can access your website with or without the "www." in front of your domain name.
Do you have a referral or reseller program?
Yes. We have both a referral program and a reseller program. For our customers who refer new customers to us, we offer a free month of hosting service for each new customer referred. This is our way of saying thank you to you for referring new customers to us. Please be sure to let us know who you referred so you we can give you the referral credit. For those of you who have the ability to refer more customers, we do have a referral program that offers cash commissions for referrals.
